Over the EI hump!

Well, we're sort of coming out the other end of EI. Who would have thought that they would have no infected horses since Xmas Day last year and nothing showing up on surveillence; not me. Have just finished the last of the vaccinations - second shot. They say third shot is available at cost to the owner. Prohibitive if you look at the hoops that have to be jumped through..... Most of the extra staff at the DPI seem to have ended up today......hope someone is there to clean up the tail end.
We've had three competitions/endurance rides at Fernvale in the last 6 weeks or so. Mostly training rides, one 80km ride FEI rated ** I think. A Training Day at Bremervale to which we took Barty - Jan took him to a Richard Sharman instruction lesson. It was a brilliant day forever burned on my mind.

Gone fishing!

Quite literally. Well have now completed the second round vaccination of the Kholo area horses, with a few lagging behind on first or second that were closest to the Shepherds Rd area. Most everyone hereabouts that wanted to be done has been able to be done by now.

Thought I'd try and post a video of what Marty and Jo do on the w/e when they can't go riding their horses! Marty wanted to go fishing on the Brissy River and I adore the ambience and absolute gorgeousness...is that a word? of the whole deal.

Very funny really.

Vaccinating for EI

Had a bit of a break from the blog. Got really really busy vaccinating horse from about when this stopped. Have done most of the horses in this area of Kholo now. This next week the second vaccination for most takes place. Just have to vaccinate some of Jan's and Kelly's to have completed the horses we have submitted.

EI is still occurring around the Purga area, Redbank Plains, more down toward the Beaudesert area and up north around the Cabolture area. Kathleen rang last night to say that Himmie, Sadie and Ki had their second shots yesterday - and that there was an EI infected sign just down the road now. They should be well protected by now though.

There is a meeting, one of very many at the moment, there was one last night in at the Ippy RSL too, and one on Saturday at the Fernvale Hall aimed at starting up competition again in the new year.

Honestly...bagging, bagging and bagging

Okay, today - dry run on my own horses who were due for their second vaccination today. Ironed out a few "bagging" problems....due to everything being double, triple and probably quadrupled bagged as a result of the GMO. Vaccination went very well, though one yearling didn't scan his microchip and had to re-chip him. Also vaccinated the Ballantynes three horses which was particularly satisfying as Rolly (32) certainly doesn't need a bout of EI.

Very nervous having the vaccine at all really, there is so much paperwork & rules, regulations and restrictions...... and so really itching to get it distributed and into the horses asap.

Tonight all well:
Keema 37.3
Noah 37.3
Paz 37.8
Amazzon 37.8
Frontier 38.2
Bart 38.3
Lucky 38.0

Did pre-temp Frontier before his vax b/c always seems to temp a little higher than you would like and was 37.5..... go figure.
