Snot here yet!

Had a better nights sleep last night.

Day 344 for Keema - no foal. Looking very much closer (see pic with toddler Tom) now has ventral belly oedema and almost "springing". Temp this morning of 36C.

One of the yearlings coughed once this morning, but that was it. Then later seen sprinting about; no cough -another false alarm?

Steel Poppy horses doing remarkably well, no extreme temps there to speak. Cough expectorant doing a remarkable job. Hardly any snot in the Valley horses at this stage. Strangely it seems to be affecting the fitter horses more markedly also the mares recently weaned of foals. Possible that the last season foals back at the main house also have it now, temps marginally up, but not much else, except perhaps an occ. cough.

Lanamere also coping well, anything with a high temp (40C) gets 2g (10mls) oral bute paste, medium temp (>38.5C) 1g (5ml). Only had one with a 40C high temp to speak. Lots coughing. No really sick horses, all on feed etc.

Sonya reports the DPI have scaled new heights in stupidity. Apparently in the buffer zone debacle of last week they sent out 10 000 letters to the Brookfield community and surrounds. These letters were rescinded the next day when, the DPI learned after consultation with vets at the coal face, that the disease was already rife THROUGH the buffer zone. Sonya didn't get a letter, but around the other side of the hill all the houses in the new housing estaste Woodfields - several hundred of them (on houseblocks) recieved the letter. Wouldn't you think they would have done a targeted letter drop and not wasted so much time and resource????

I don't think any of us are hanging out for the DPI to show up once we notify them of infection.....but wondering if it isn't in our best interest to establish that we actually HAVE had EI and insist on antibody titres. Any thoughts?
PM Report
This afternoon all quiet on the western front...thugh we have a powerful breeze from the north east across from the Moggil Sawmill (EI horses there!). All temps normal. Though am a little concerned - Pazzy almost has wax, though unconvincing, BUT there is a small amount of something. She might just start some Trimidine for the rest of the week.
Wrong way around.....she's Day 314 today, would like her to go at least another week.
What are you doing Keema?....who I might add is looking a little more convincing this afternoon, but doubt it will be tonight.
Both will be checked at 10pm.
Temps:
Keema - 38 (taken earlier today and ambient temps getting hotter)
Noah - 37.8
Paz - 37.8
Amazzon - 37.5
Bartie - 38.2
Frontier - 38
Lucky - 37.7
Until tomorrow.
